Environmental Impact

Using Tupinamba certified home compostable coffee pods is a solution to prevent billions of capsules from going to landfill every year where they take up to 500 years to degrade.  Tupinamba capsules can be added to food waste or onsite composting and will break down into natural raw materials in weeks. Tupinamba only uses coffee that is grown organically or certified to Rainforest Alliance or UTZ standards, therefore ensuring fair pay and working standards for coffee farmers.

Country of Origin Spain
Standards and Certifications

OK Home Compost: The OK compost HOME programme has served as the basis for the drafting of several standards such as: Australia: AS 5810 (2010) – Biodegradable plastics – Biodegradable plastics suitable for home composting

Rainforest Alliance: On forestry products, such as paper and cardboard packaging, the seal means that the product or package is sourced from forests certified to the standard of the Forest Stewardship Council®, of which the Rainforest Alliance is a founding member. And, that the business applying the seal is a member of our Forest Allies Initiative.  The Rainforest Alliance certifies coffee, as well as other products and services, when it is produced under certain standards. In general, Rainforest Alliance standards are intended to protect the environment and the rights of workers.

TUV Compostable: TÜV AUSTRIA (formerly Vinçotte) is a certification body authorized by European Bioplasticsand may therefore award the Seedling logo to products that are in compliance with EN 13432. The home compostable approval, currently handed out by TUV Austria is based upon a few different EU standards. The home compostable label means that left in a garden compost heap, the item will degrade. The testing criteria for this that the product must biodegrade by at least 90% of its mass.
